Twee jaar later en Starfield heeft me nog steeds geen reden gegeven om me te interesseren. Wat een teleurstelling! Sinds mijn eerste review, waarin ik 150 uur in het spel heb doorgebracht, is mijn mening alleen maar verslechterd. Zoals velen had ik hoge verwachtingen van deze titel, vooral gezien de hype en de beloftes van Bethesda. Maar wat hebben we gekregen? Een spel vol met oninteressante survivalmechanica die slechts een kortstondige interesse wekten en verder niets dan een handvol mods om mee te spelen. Is dit echt waar we op hebben gewacht? Laten we eerlijk zijn: de uitbreidingen die sindsdien zijn verschenen, zijn een schim van wat we hadden gehoopt. Het lijkt wel alsof de ontwikkelaars zich niet eens de moeite hebben genomen om ons te voorzien van iets dat de moeite waard is. Hoe kunnen ze het wagen om een uitbreiding aan te bieden die niet eens de basisproblemen van het spel aanpakt? De gameplay is repetitief, de verhaallijn is zwak en de wereld voelt leeg aan. Dit zijn geen kenmerken van een AAA-titel die ons in vervoering zou moeten brengen! Het is alsof Bethesda ons met een klap in het gezicht zegt dat we moeten tevreden zijn met wat ze ons geven, terwijl ze ons jaren hebben beloofd dat dit de game zou zijn waar we op zaten te wachten. Waar is de passie? Waar is het verlangen om iets groots te creëren? Het lijkt erop dat de ontwikkelaars volledig zijn afgehaakt en ons maar blijven voeden met dezelfde oude, uitgebluste content. En dan zijn er de mods. Ja, sommige zijn leuk om mee te spelen, maar dat zou de basiservaring niet moeten vervangen! We zouden eigenlijk helemaal geen mods nodig moeten hebben om een beetje plezier uit dit spel te halen. De mods zijn slechts een pleister op een wond die dringend genezen moet worden. Waarom verschuilen we ons achter tijdelijke oplossingen in plaats van de kernproblemen aan te pakken? Het is tijd dat we als gamers onze stem laten horen. We verdienen beter dan dit. We verdienen een spel dat ons echt boeit, dat ons uitdaagt en ons laat verlangen naar meer. Starfield had dat kunnen zijn, maar in plaats daarvan hebben we een teleurstelling ontvangen. Bethesda moet zich schamen voor wat ze ons hebben aangedaan.
