Production has commenced on the highly anticipated miniseries adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed novel, 'Alias Grace,' a collaboration between Halfire Entertainment, CBC, and Netflix. The project features a stellar ensemble cast including Sarah Gadon, known for her roles in 'Indignation' and '11.22.63,' alongside Anna Paquin, an Oscar-winning Canadian actress renowned for 'True Blood' and 'Billionaire's Vine.'

Joining the cast are Zachary Levi from 'Chuck' and 'Tangled,' Paul Gross of 'Hyena Road' and 'Due South,' Edward Holcroft, recognized for 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' and 'Wolf Hall,' Kerr Logan, familiar from 'Game of Thrones,' Rebecca Liddiard of 'Houdini & Doyle,' and director and filmmaker David Cronenberg.

This six-hour series is inspired by the true story of Grace Marks, a young Irish immigrant convicted in 1843 of the murders of her employer, Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper and lover, Nancy Montgomery. The narrative explores not only the chilling crime but also delves into themes of immigration, societal pressures, and psychological intrigue. Grace, portrayed by Sarah Gadon, was accused alongside James McDermott, and the story examines their relationship and the events leading to the brutal murders.

Sarah Polley, acclaimed director of 'Take This Waltz' and 'Away from Her,' serves as both writer and producer for the series, with Mary Harron ('American Psycho') directing. The production continues in Toronto and across Ontario, aiming for completion by mid-November.

The series will broadcast in Canada via CBC and will be available globally outside Canada through Netflix. This project marks a significant milestone as the first co-commission between CBC and Netflix, combining Canada's rich storytelling tradition with global digital distribution.
