Microsoft has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia and SITE to explore the development of a sovereign cloud in the kingdom. The aim is to enhance data security, confidentiality, and sovereignty, while also providing access to the latest cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies.
It's one of those things that sounds important, I guess. They’re talking about cloud services and data protection, which is supposed to be a big deal these days. But honestly, it just feels like another corporate partnership that will take ages to actually mean something. I mean, how many times have we heard about companies teaming up to bring "innovative" solutions?
The whole sovereign cloud concept seems to be about keeping data safe and secure within the borders of Saudi Arabia, which is probably good, but what does that really change for the average person? Probably not much. They'll have their fancy technology, and we'll still be scrolling through our feeds, waiting for something exciting to happen.
