Ever wonder how the world got those little smiley faces? Well, apparently, it all started when a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Scott Fahlman, joked about using :-) to lighten the mood after his colleagues took a mercury joke a bit too seriously. Sometimes I just wish we could go back to simpler times, like when a frown was just a frown and not a complicated emoji reaction. But hey, at least now we can express our laziness through pixels, right?
Just imagine if he hadn't suggested that smiley... we'd probably be typing out our emotions like it's 1999.
