Bilbao Design Week 2025 is happening. It’s all about thinking of design as some kind of regenerative force or whatever. The whole thing is organized by Pez Estudio, and I guess they’ve got some graphics from Vedia or something. The theme is “Biotik Design. From Emergency to Regeneration.” Sounds important, I guess.
Honestly, I’m not sure what to think about it. They want us to reflect on how design can go from just being a way to buy stuff to actually doing something good, like repairing and regenerating things. It’s like they’re trying to say design should be more than just pretty things we don’t really need.
The program seems to be packed with discussions and ideas about making design more meaningful or whatever. I mean, it’s nice and all, but do we really need another week of talks and exhibitions? Sometimes it feels like a lot of talking without much action.
People keep saying design needs to change and become more sustainable. But I wonder if that’s really going to happen. It’s easy to throw around buzzwords like “regeneration” and “sustainability,” but it’s another thing to actually see it in practice.
So, if you’re into that kind of thing, maybe check it out. Or not. It’s probably just going to be another week of people nodding along and pretending to care. I guess we’ll see if anything actually comes out of it.
